App accessibility report

Accessibility in CarerHours

We want CarerHours to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who use VoiceOver, Voice Control, larger text or other assistive technology. This report says what we have actually tested, what we have not, and where CarerHours still falls short. Read it alongside our accessibility commitment.

No hands-on test has been recorded yet.

Overview

Every feature has one status, and the status is the whole claim. These are the recorded statuses for CarerHours. They are not a score, and none of them is a guarantee that the app works for everyone.

2 known limitations are documented in this report. Read them.

  • Built in and checked 4 features

Built into the app and covered by our automated tests and Apple accessibility checks. Not yet confirmed by hand on a real device, so we do not call it tested.

Reduce Motion, Dark Mode, Charts and graphs, Errors and alerts

  • Known limitation 2 features

We know this does not work well yet. See the limitations below.

    Larger Text, Contrast

  • Not yet assessed 7 features

We have not looked at this yet.

VoiceOver, Voice Control, Differentiate Without Colour, Switch Control and keyboard, Touch targets, Subscription and purchase screens, First-run setup

Accessibility features

Each feature is described, given its recorded status, and followed by the evidence and observations behind that status. Nothing is rated higher than the checking behind it.

Built in and checked Built into the app and covered by our automated tests and Apple accessibility checks. Not yet confirmed by hand on a real device, so we do not call it tested.

  • Reduce Motion

Non-essential animation is removed when Reduce Motion is on.

Movement is switched off or replaced with a fade when Reduce Motion is on, including onboarding, new entries and expand and collapse animations.

  • Dark Mode

The app is comfortable to read in both light and dark appearance.

Every colour in the app has a light and a dark version, so screens follow your device appearance setting.

  • Charts and graphs

Every chart has a text summary that carries the same information.

Both charts are read as one plain summary of the figures instead of bar by bar.

  • Errors and alerts

Problems are announced clearly, not just shown.

Saving an entry is announced to VoiceOver, and a failed Reminders save shows an alert.

Known limitation We know this does not work well yet. See the limitations below.

  • Larger Text

Text scales to the largest accessibility sizes without being cut off or overlapping.

Icons and most text now scale with your text size, but some labels still shrink to fit instead of wrapping at the largest sizes.

    See the documented limitations

  • Contrast

Text and controls are readable, including with Increase Contrast switched on.

Text colours were checked against their backgrounds in light and dark and pass the 4.5 to 1 minimum. The outlines around fields and unselected chips are faint.

Not yet assessed We have not looked at this yet.

  • VoiceOver

Every control has a clear label, state and action, read in a logical order.

No evidence has been recorded for this feature.

  • Voice Control

Every control can be operated by saying its name.

No evidence has been recorded for this feature.

  • Differentiate Without Colour

Nothing depends on colour alone to carry meaning.

No evidence has been recorded for this feature.

  • Switch Control and keyboard

The app can be operated with Switch Control or a keyboard.

No evidence has been recorded for this feature.

  • Touch targets

Controls are large enough and spaced well enough to tap reliably.

No evidence has been recorded for this feature.

  • Subscription and purchase screens

Everything needed to choose, buy and restore is accessible.

No evidence has been recorded for this feature.

  • First-run setup

Onboarding can be completed with assistive technology.

No evidence has been recorded for this feature.

How we tested

We check CarerHours with automated tests and Apple's accessibility checks as we build it, but we have not yet recorded a hands-on test on a real device. When we do, the app version, date, devices and technologies will be listed here.

Every status in this report comes from checking the app, not from assuming the platform handles it. Tested means we tried it by hand on a real device. Built in and checked means it is in the app and covered by our automated tests and Apple's accessibility checks, but we have not yet confirmed it by hand.

Read more about our method on the accessibility page.

Known limitations

  • Known limitation

Faint outlines on fields and unselected chips

The outlines around text fields, unselected category chips and the off position of switches are about 1.4 to 1 against the background in light mode (1.6 to 1 in dark), below the 3 to 1 suggested for controls. The labels themselves are clear, and selected items also show a tick and a heavier outline.

Workaround: Selected and on states are shown with a tick as well as colour, so they can be told apart.

  • Known limitation

Some labels shrink at large text sizes

A few labels in the entry and onboarding screens reduce in size to fit one line instead of wrapping.

Workaround: Use the Entries and Expenses lists, which wrap normally.
